Popularly named city-museum, Cetinje is the royal capital of Montenegro, which used to be the capital for over 5 centuries. As a result, visitors could visit the residences of Montenegrin rulers and see many international embassies. Our next stop will be one of five national parks in Montenegro. On the second highest peak of the mountain, Lovcen has located the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, a famous Montenegrin bishop-ruler, and philosopher. It has been under the protection of the state since 1983, while it has been holding IBA status (Area of International Importance for the Stay of Birds) since 1989. In 1995, it was listed on the World List of Wetlands of International Importance – Ramsar List. If you’re lucky enough, you will see the amazing Dalmatian pelican and many other birds!

The great ehret enjoys Skadar Lake Montenegro AdventureThis area is of great importance, both because of its diverse flora and fauna and its cultural and historical monuments. It is known that the first capital of Montenegro was Žabljak Crnojevića on Skadar Lake, then in one place called Obod was opened the first state printing office in 1494, only 50 years after the printing press was found! A large number of monasteries are located on the islands of Skadar Lake, as well as Grmozur – King Nikola’s Island Prison, a large number of small sandy beaches – great for swimming during hot summer days, many traditional restaurants with fish specialities, among which stand out smoked carp.

When we say Skadar Lake, a fantastic wine comes to our mind! The area has a changing Mediterranean climate, so people have been involved in grape growing and wine production for centuries. Before check-in the amazing hotel “Bianca” 4*, we will visit a few fantastic places! The first stop will be in Morača Monastery, the orthodox monastery from the 13th century, located on the right bank of the river Moraca.

The journey continues through the canyon of river Morača, also known as canyon Platije. The road is reflected in a total of 32 tunnels, some of which run for miles through the rocky interior of the mountains, and some just like arches, cut through a large rock. Arrive at National Park “Biogradska Gora” and a visit to the beautiful Biograd Lake.

National park “Biogradska Gora” was established as a national park in 1952. And it was the first protected area in Montenegro because earlier in 1878. King Nikola recognized the beauty of the area and put it under protection. The mountain Bjelasica is one of the greenest mountains of Montenegro, extremely accessible for hiking and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Bjelasica has seven lakes, among which the beauty, size, and location of Biograd Lake stand out. It is a glacial lake, surrounded by the centuries-old forest “Biogradska Gora”, which is one of the three preserved forests in Europe. In addition to its exceptional plant richness, Biogradska Gora is also home to a large number of different sorts of birds such as Tetrao, lark, tit, ow, common buzzard and eagle. All in all, this national park is a must-visit, so you will make sure that it is a protected area for a reason.

Since we spent the previous days exploring the history and culture of Montenegro during the sightseeing and cultural walking and boat tours, the fifth day of this tour is reserved for physical activity – an easy hiking tour to the fantastic peaks of the mountain range Prokletije.

Prokletije-high-peaks-green-meadowsProkletije is the fifth national park in Montenegro, established in 2009. “Zla Kolata” is the highest peak of this mountain as well as of Montenegro. The Prokletije area is administratively divided between Albania, Serbia – Kosovo, and Montenegro. After its imposing appearance and high sharp peaks, the term “Balkan Alps” is often used to describe Prokletije.

After breakfast in the hotel, we drive to the Katun Popadija, the starting point for a hiking tour. It is located at the foot of the cirque which descends from the surrounding peaks of Trojan and Popadija. Walking through this seemingly harsh but very hospitable mountain is a real pleasure for all visitors. Some parts of the trail lead through the beech forest, which is perfect to escape from hot summer days for a while. The paths are mostly shepherd’s paths through vivid green pastures, surrounded by magnificent mountain peaks. From the pass, Ćafa (1.874 m) opens a magnificent view of the grassy, gentle slopes of Volušnica, the peaks Popadija (2.030m) and Talijanka (2.057m). Opposite them, the slopes of the massif Karanfili rise vertically and with its appearance leave speechless every visitor. The walk continues to the peaks mentioned above until the group reaches again the starting point.

This is the relaxing, less demanding hiking tour to the unreal and unspoiled nature and breathtaking landscapes!
