After breakfast, at nine o’clock, go to the most stunning national park in Montenegro, Durmitor and visit the renowned Tara Canyon, which is the second-deepest canyon in the world and the deepest in Europe. An all-day tour to discover the well-known “Durmitor Ring,” a panoramic, round-trip track spanning 85 km that veers entirely off the main path and circles the Durmitor mountain.

This tour is a fantastic opportunity to discover the enormous natural and cultural diversity of Durmitor National Park, and it requires very little physical exertion. The Ćurevac viewpoint is the best place to see the Tara Canyon and the starting point for exploring the Durmitor circular path. Since a car cannot get to the viewpoint position itself (1625 m above sea level), a two-way walk over easy terrain (about an hour) is highly recommended.

The stunning views of the Tara River Canyon that we are currently enjoying will undoubtedly demonstrate that, after the Grand Canyon in the United States, this canyon is the second highest in the world.

The day’s next destination is “Momčilov Grad.” Prlitor, a fortified settlement, is situated at the hills, high above Tara Canyon. The route now crosses the pass between Mali Štuoc (1,953 m) and Veliki Štuoc (2,104 m), where we stop by one of the most fascinating villages in Montenegro and the entire Balkan region: the well-known village of “Mala Crna Gora” (Little Montenegro), which is situated at an elevation of 1700 m, on the brink of the breathtaking Sušica canyon.

The charming village of Nedajno will be our next stop after passing the stunning Sušica Canyon viewpoint and taking in the breathtaking surroundings. Located on Piva Mountain at an elevation of 1470 meters, close to the valleys of Piva, Tara, and Sušica, Trsa is the next settlement on our Durmitor trip schedule after Nedajno. We’ll do a quick, covert 20-minute trek from the village to one of Piva Nature Park’s most picturesque peaks. Fantastic exercise before we carry on with our Durmitor ring exploration.

Our adventure continues after a delicious lunch. We’ll go past the small village of Pišće and reach Prutaš (2393 m) and the Todorov Do (Todor’s Valley) viewpoint. Amazing photo opportunities can be found throughout Prutaš Massif and Todor’s Valley.

The last stop of our Durmitor Ring journey will be Sedlo Pass (1907m, famously called the “saddle of gods”), located below the striking peak of Stožina. Prijevoj (eng. pass or saddle), a sunken part between two mountain peaks, is the most common starting point for the majority of beautiful hiking tours in the entire Durmitor massif (Bobotov Kuk, Krčka lakes, Prutaš, etc.).

The round-trip from and to Žabljak takes about seven or eight hours overall, covering 85 kilometers of breathtaking terrain in the renowned Durmitor National Park. Your return to Žabljak in the afternoon will be around 4 or 5 pm.
