What to Expect

On this culture-historical tour, we’ll take you to see the most attractive places in Montenegro where you can follow the trace of the Ottomans. This exciting tour is designed to showcase the culture and history, as well as please nature lovers, and entice you to choose the activities and cuisine you wish to try on at each place.

Highlights of the tour are to enjoy the amazing land with rich history through the Ottomans period, but also different cultures, such as Greek, Roman, Illyrian and others that left their traces on this area.

DAY 1Arrival and welcome meeting

The first day of this gorgeous tour is simply the day of arrival at airport Tivat or Podgorica without any organized activities. You get time to relax and see some of the sights you might want to add to your tour.

If you arrive early, we can book you some activity from our optional activities on this day or go into the city and see some of the sites that make Ulcinj popular the country over.

DAY 2Old Town Ulcinj & Sailor’s Mosque

After breakfast at 9 o’clock, we will visit The Old Town in Ulcinj which is one of the oldest architectural and urban units on the Adriatic. The Old Town, with its Illyrian walls, Citadel, a complex of the narrow streets, markets, and squares, is a cultural-historical monument of immense importance. After the sightseeing of the old town, we continue our walk towards the town’s square and the city beach to a place called Pristan.

The Mosque at Pristan was built by the Ibrahim-paša (pasha) Bušatlija who was badly wounded in the battle, and in order to thank God, he built a mosque. He dedicated it to the Ulcinj seamen who contributed greatly to the success and wealth of his family, and therefore, in the people, it is called the Sailors’ Mosque.

After we have toured the mosque, the walk continues along the coast to the famous Pine forest. In this beautiful area, there is the famous “Women’s Beach” with its sulfur sources, which are a true elixir for non-fertile women. The smell of the sea and pine trees will make your atmosphere unique.

DAY 3Selimija Mosque and Islamic Center - Bar

After breakfast and no later than 8 o’clock we drive to the port town of Bar and Old Town Bar which is the largest urban agglomeration among the ruins in Montenegro. The cultural center and the mosque belong to a unique mosque complex. The mosque is named after Selimi, in memory of the first built mosque in the Old Town, from which there are preserved foundations today.

The two minarets are 42 meters high and The Selimija Mosque is seen from almost every part of the Old Bar. Apart from the prayer space, there is a large number of contents in the Islamic Cultural Center. In the left wing of the center, there is a restaurant with oriental cuisine, apartments for guests, Shariah wedding hall, simultaneous translation room, a boutique with religious equipment.

After visiting the Old Bar we drive back towards Ulcinj and visit place Mirovica, five kilometers from Bar to find Stara Maslina (Old Olive Tree), a symbol of the city of Bar. This is one of the oldest olive trees in the world, over 2,000 years old! A ring of white stone protects the tree’s space. Legend has it that the Mirovica named so, as feuding families would come under the olive tree to make peace (mir) – the root of the name meaning peace.

During the return journey, we make some short breaks for photography as well as for lunch. In late afternoon free time in Ulcinj.

DAY 4Travel to Pljevlja & Visit Podgorica and Canyons

After breakfast at 9 o’clock, we leave Ulcinj and the coast and drive north to town Pljevlja. On our journey, we’ll enjoy the view of Skadar Lake and its surroundings, discover Podgorica as well as the Morača and Tara canyons, that will delight you. Experience a day through canyons Morača and Tara in the National Park Durmitor in northern Montenegro.

The Morača canyon is one of the most beautiful canyons, a river that spring in northern Montenegro at the foot of the mountain Rzač, which flows 113 km from north to south and empties into the Skadar Lake.

The Tara river canyon takes a proud the second longest in the world after the Grand Canyon in the USA and Europe´s longest canyon. This breathtaking canyon is the 1330 m deep and about 80 km long, even in the UNESCO-s world heritage.

You will also get to enjoy the amazing view from the Đurđevića Tara bridge with the opportunity to see several cultural and historical treasures. There are no descriptions that convey the natural beauty, attractiveness and all positive that this amazing tour offers, it must be seen and experienced.

DAY 5City Tour Pljevlja & Husein Pasha Mosque

After breakfast at 9 o’clock, we’ll visit the ancient culture times in Pljevlja with cultural-historical monuments and the most important monuments of the medieval, Hussein Pasha Mosque. The beautiful Hussein Pasha Mosque is a top-notch work of Oriental construction. Her minarets stand 42 meters high are held as the most beautiful religious monument of Muslims in Montenegro.

We’ll also visit St. Trojica (three male), the old part of the city, the Sahat Tower and the Mosque of Gazi Hussein-Pasha Boljanić, built in 1562.

Pljevlja is known for its culture and tradition as a city of Sevdah (music) and enjoyment (Merak) and culinary specialties, and specifically earmark track on the city’s famous orchestra Pljevaljski Tamburaši.

After a delicious lunch in one of the national restaurants, free time.

DAY 6The sightseeing tour of Petnjica

After breakfast and no later than 8 o’clock we drive towards the town Bijelo Polje and visit village Petnjica. The mosque in Petnjica was built in the 16th century, the only three-story building of this type in the region. Its appearance today differs considerably from its original appearance.
The size of the building was smaller, the first floor was made of stone and the other was made of wood. Her minaret out of the tree. The mosque in Petnjica is under the protection of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.

Besides the tradition, historical heritage and natural beauties, Petnjica’s villages provide diverse possibilities with various and unique contents to the visitors all year round. The Radmanska gulch (”Radmanska klisura”) treasures many secrets, hidden in numerous caves, grottos, and galleries, which is rich in stalactites, stalagmites, and petrified waterfalls.

For thousands of years, in this locality lies huge, the hidden archeological treasure which is considered to be the richest and most valuable locality of the Neolithic period in Montenegro.

DAY 7The trucks of the Ottomans in Gusinje and Plav

After breakfast at 8 o’clock, we drive towards Plav. Redžepagić’s Tower, located in the center of Plava to explore this historical monument built in 1671 by Hasan beg Redžepagić.

The Tower first had two floors with solid stone walls, a thickness of more than one meter, a guard tower and a loop. Later the third floor was made of wood, called “Čardak” (Turkish). On the sides are visible wooden structures – “erkeri”. The dimensions of the Tower are 7 m to 8 m. At the top of the Tower, it was possible to get in by way of an interior staircase, or of the outside entryway, which was used only during the day, so that during the night the tower would remain inaccessible.

Afterwads we visit the Old Mosque, or as it is still called in this city, the Čaršijskaa mosque, is the oldest mosque in the plav-gusinje region and the most famous of the four mosques in this city. After the arrival of the Turks in these parts, for the needs of the army, a fortress complex called Dizdarev Grad was built, named after Zejnel-beg Dizdar, the founder of the fort. The establishment consisted of rooms for the accommodation of soldiers, supplies, and weapons, libraries and other buildings.

We’ll aslo visit the Mosque in Gusinje as well as famous Alipaša’s sources and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the restaurants of this mountain region.

Starts on & Ends on of the Tour

Airport: If you arrive by plane and airport transfer to hotel (Ulcinj) is included (or you purchased separately a transfer), we’ll meet you at the airport in the arrivals lounge after your plane landed, according to the scheduled time or on the agreement. Our guide or driver will be waiting for you outside the arrival lounge with your name written on our signboard. Please, check our website or travel agency beforehand for the correct start and end on locations and times.
Hotel & Accommodation: If you are already in your hotel/accommodation on (Ulcinj), the welcome meeting may be scheduled on the day of arrival at 20:00 or on the agreement. If you arrive late at night the welcome meeting should be held the next day before breakfast. Please check in your voucher, our website the itinerary or hotel reception, where will be a welcome meeting.
If you arrive at the hotel 1-2 days earlier welcome meeting will be held along with other passengers according to the program, but you are welcome to contact us for any other service or information.
Other: If you arrive at Ulcinj in the Day 2 on your own, with your own car, bus or otherwise, you ‘ll be at the starting/meeting point at least 30 minutes before departure time. To ensure smooth operation, we cannot take requests for late departures. Please double-check your booking beforehand for the correct start and end locations and time. Please note that we show all meeting/starting locations available on the website. So please use this as reference only.

Transport & Transfer

Arrival airport: Airport Podgorica or Airport Tivat is arrival airports recommended for this tour because it provides much shorter transfer times to Ulcinj on Day 1. Private transfers can be an economical alternative to public transport in Montenegro, in some cases equal to the cost of public transportation in the EU. You can book private transfers from/to airports and to/from hotels on our website.
Airport transfers: Book your airport transfers direct online when you book your tour or activity.
– If you want to share the transfer with other passengers as a “shared transfer”, please indicate that you want a shared transfer when completing your online booking form. In that case, you have an even better price of transfer that we will calculate at the end of your payment.
If there is an insufficient number of participants during your reservation and you want to book a “shared transfer” and pay a deposit, but in the meantime, other people also booked then, the basic price will be calculated. Just give us a notification when booking for this “shared transfer” option.
Other arrivals: If you arrive at any other station except the airport, such as the bus or railway station as well port and do not have transportation, please contact us. We will be happy to book your transportation (subject to availability).

Confirmation of accommodation

To get the best possible accommodation in the category according to your program in the best location, we will confirm with the hotel/accommodation to do a favor for your best. Where exactly do you want to stay, you will get details when we have signed a contract with your accommodation. E.g. we do so because instead of your hotel of 3 stars, you may get 4 stars or perhaps a better location, facilities or other if it is the same hotel class. You can book a transfer to the city, where you have accommodation, then your name and address will be your accommodation but no later than 7 days before departure.

If you book with us your transfer to the hotel/accommodation then you can also get the best terms and price as we give you a discount on transfer if several travelers share the transfer.

Change and Cancellation Policy

All changes are subject to availability and a price increase or equivalent administrative charge imposed on the holder of the credit card used during the booking process.
• For any type of change, please contact our Customer Center directly.
• The addresses or location on the voucher are the places where you will be picked up and left.
Montenegro Adventure also reserves the right not to offer the tour if the ordered service differs too much from the service booked at the first opportunity. Changes made less than 48 hours before scheduled departure time are not allowed unless the transfer provider or destination requires otherwise.
The passenger is entitled to cancel the tour and is required to inform the Montenegro Adventure. Cancellation can be made on our website or by e-mail: [email protected] The date of the written cancellation is the basis for calculating the fee, according to the General Terms and Conditions of the Montenegro Adventure, expressed as a percentage of the total price, if it’s not otherwise stated, as follows:
• 5% if the tour is canceled up to 45 days before the start of the trip (early cancellation)
• 10% if the tour is canceled for one month, ie 30 days before the trip starts
• 20% if the tour is canceled 29 – 21 days before the start of the trip
• 40% if the tour is canceled 20 – 15 days before the start of the trip
• 80% if the tour is canceled 14 – 10 days before the start of the trip
• 90% if the tour is canceled 9 – 6 days before the start of the trip
• 100% if canceled 5 to 0 days before the start of the tour or during the tour
The passenger pays only the incurred costs to the Organizer if he canceled due to circumstances that he could not avoid or eliminate: illness or death of the passenger or spouse and children, first hereditary relatives, brother or sister, or a call for the military exercise of passengers and elementary accidents are officially declared. For these cases, the passenger is required to submit written evidence to the Organizer.
In this case, the passenger is obliged to give written confirmation to the Organizer of the reason for cancellation issued by the competent authorities within 5 days. If the person who canceled the tour provides a suitable replacement or the organizer finds a replacement the person is obliged to pay only the costs of the Organizer. If the tour is missed due to delays or missing arrival, refunds will not be issued.

Price is based on group 4 – 16 participants (adults) and per person, as well as according to the suggested date of multi days tour.

– If there is an insufficient number of participants during your reservation and you want to book a “private tour” and pay a deposit, but in the meantime, other people also booked then, the basic price will be calculated. Just give us a notification when booking for this “basic” option.
The tour duration can be customized to your needs as a “mini-break” 4 days / 2, 3 or 4 nights, 5-6 days / 4, 5 or 6 nights, 10 days / 9, 10 or 11 nights or according to your wishes for a longer period. Contact us to customize to your needs.

Gratuity (Tip, Bakhshish): Your Montenegro Adventure crew never expect tip themselves and will not request for any. However, if you are pleased with our staff who have served you, and you still want to give a tip, our staff will appreciate it and be grateful for your gesture.
Clothes: Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the tour. Hat or cap, sunscreen, and appropriate sun protection clothing is required during warmer months. A small umbrella or raincoat for rain will be useful in case of light rain. The weather in the mountains of Montenegro can be very unpredictable (warmer clothing for months other than summer). Please prepare for various weather conditions.

Tips / Advices

• This tour includes visiting the religious places, so just be aware and respectful.
• Dress code: Long trousers or skirt and a top that covers your shoulders.
You can’t have sleeveless tops, shorts, etc. – something that reveals your body. It’s very conservative so cover up or they will deny you entrance.
• In most object, you need to take off your shoes to enter.
• No food inside. Only water is allowed. Can’t take anyone in either.
