Discover Tara and Morača canyons with Žabljak, which will delight you!
Enjoy this day trip to Žabljak with the famous Black Lake and canyons Tara and Morača in Montenegro. Canyon Morača is one of the most beautiful canyons, a river that springs in northern Montenegro at the foot of the mountain Rzač, which flows 113 km from north to south and empties into the Skadar Lake. Morača Monastery from the 13th century is another attraction on this exciting adventure. Along the way we make a few short stops to rest and enjoy the fantastic parts of these two canyons.
The canyon Tara is in the UNESCO register of the world’s natural heritage and Europe’s deepest and turned only by the Grand Canyon in the USA. Montenegro has the deepest and most beautiful canyons in Europe. No wonder, because the north of Montenegro is an area of high mountains that is crisscrossed by magnificent canyons, whose beauty leaves no one indifferent. Enjoy an amazing view from the Đurđevića Tara bridge. On this trip, you will experience the unique Tara river with crystal clear water, wild rapids and waterfalls.

Also, the famous bridge Đurđevića Tara is an architectural masterpiece with five arches 152 meters above the incredible unique river Tara.
It is definitely a trip to places that should be visited if you are looking to enjoy nature or activities where everything feels like an adventure. You come to experience when you take yourself, your friends or your family on your journey with amazing enjoyment:
We’ll meet about 10-15 minutes before departing time at the location after the program or agreement in Podgorica for a “welcome meeting”.
We start early from Podgorica, around half-past seven o’clock in the morning and drive through Podgorica to canyon Morača. Along the way we make a few short stops to rest and enjoy the spectacular scenery, and a short photo break in the canyon Morača.
On the way through the Morača Canyon, before we visit the Morača Monastery, we will make a short stop to take pictures in the narrowest and most popular part of the Morača Canyon, Platije Canyon.
Canyon Morača is one of the most beautiful canyons, a river that springs in northern Montenegro at the foot of the mountain Rzač, which flows 113 km from north to south and empties into the Skadar Lake.
The Monastery Morača from the 13th century is another attraction on this exciting adventure.
Continued journey to the Tara River canyon with a few short stops to rest, photograph and enjoy the spectacular scenery of this unique canyon and its river, which is under UNESCO protection.
After the Moraca canyon, drive through the Tara river canyon, one of the most famous in the world, after the Colorado canyon in the USA.
When we arrive at the famous Djurdjevica Tara Bridge, we take a walk and enjoy the view from the famous bridge Đurđevića Tara, which is an architectural masterpiece with five arches 152 feet above the river. Try white water rafting and have the opportunity to look at the bridge from the water and gain a new perspective on this masterpiece.
Taste local food at the restaurants around the bridge that offer delicious specialities of the local cuisine, where you can try phenomenal barbecue like meatballs, kebabs, burgers, sausages… (ćevapi, ražnjići, pljeskavice, sudžukice…), salad, cheese, cream (kajmak), pies (pita) and bread during the “saće”, donuts, pastries and homemade brandy (šljivovica) or juice.
From Djurdjevica Tara Bridge we drive along the serpentine way uphill to mountain Durmitor towards the Žabljak a small mountain town of around 2,000 people. The town is in the centre of the Durmitor mountain region and with an altitude of 1,456 metres, it is the highest-situated town in the Balkans. Also known for its beautiful Black Lake (Crno Jezero) we will visit.
Žabljak is a great place to visit if you’re looking for adventure and a place where you can enjoy the simple life, therefore it’s one of the best places to see Montenegro’s ‘black mountains’ and raw nature. We will take a small walk through the town and spend more time around Black Lake.
The Black Lake must be seen! There’s a 4km walking track around the edge of the lake. It’s an easy trail through the forest and there are lots of places to stop for picnics and to enjoy the view. Along the way, you’ll find info boards telling you about the plants and animals that live in the area and some of the history of the area.
You’ll need to pay the entrance fee to visit the lake for National Park. Tickets cost 3 euros per person, and children under 7 go free.
After we have walked on the lake, the return journey to Podgorica, or under the program. Along the way we make a few short stops to rest the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Montenegro.
