The Tara river canyon takes a proud the second-longest in the world after the Grand Canyon in the USA and Europe´s longest canyon. This breathtaking canyon is 1330 m deep and about 80 km long, even in the UNESCO-s world heritage.

Highlights of our adventure are to experience the stunning scenery in the canyons of Tara and Morača, but also the historical and cultural sights to see, as well as visits to Žabljak and Black Lake in Durmitor National Park, one of the most beautiful lakes in Montenegro. Along the way, we will make a few short stops to rest and enjoy the fantastic parts of the canyons.

The Black Lake (Crno jezero) is the simply gorgeous, blue/green lake, forest, peaks behind, this is “wild” Montenegro at it’s best. The lake itself is so clear and clean, ideal for taking a dip and the background of the mountain makes it a spectacular setting. The lake itself is about 3.5km and takes around an hour to walk around and it looks just like it does in the photographs – absolutely amazing.
It is definitely a day tour to places that should be visited if you are looking to enjoy nature or activities where everything feels like an adventure. On this day tour Canyons & Black Lake with walking adventure you will get to experience:
We’ll meet about 5 – 10 minutes before departing time in the center of Budva (at the bus stop for tourist and excursion buses on the Mediteranska street, near the Hotel Tre Canne), or according to the agreement for a “welcome meeting”. Please, look closely at the driving schedule where will you get on the bus (minibus).

The day tour starts from Budva and Bečići at about half-past seven in the morning via St. Stefan (around 06:45) and Petrovac (around 07:00) and drives towards Skadar Lake. During the journey, we have a fantastic view of Budva Riviera and Skadar Lake. Along the way we make a few short stops to rest, take photos and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
We drive through Podgorica, a city of great importance situated in the biggest flat ground area of Montenegro, as a part of the spacious Skadar – Podgorica valley towards Kolašin and northern Montenegro.
The journey continues on the road through the Morača canyon, one of the most spectacular roads in the world with numerous cliff-side bends and tunnels, on the side of the cliffs. We pass by the Monastery Morača from the 13th century. In the upper part of the Morača canyon extending Platije Canyon, which is on average 1000 meters in depth.

This road along the edge of the narrow canyon, in essence, will extract the thrill from you and will delight you with the beauty of the landscape surrounding you. You can enjoy observing the amazing contrast between steep dark cliffs and the green river. At moments, this beauty becomes scary!
After a short sightseeing stop in the Platije, the journey continues to the Tara River canyon with short stops to rest, photography and enjoy the spectacular scenery of this unique canyon and its river.
Take a walk and enjoy the view from the famous Đurđevića Tara Bridge, a concrete arch bridge that passes the Tara River which is one of the most popular and memorable sights in Montenegro. During the walk on the bridge which is an architectural masterpiece with its five arches 172 meters above the river, you have the opportunity to observe from the height beyond the river Tara. You are amazed at the bridge’s elegance and power at the same time.

Take the time and go down to the gorge or up around the bridge, there is a huge number of view spots and from each spot, there are unique and magnificent views of the surrounding area. You get fantastic photos!

There are also several restaurants around the bridge to try local food, like small markets with souvenirs.

You can also go on a rafting ride on the Tara River (optional 70 euros), or take a flight over the canyon on the zipline (optional 45 euros).
After the break, from this amazing bridge, we drive along the serpentine way uphill to mountain Durmitor towards Black Lake and the Žabljak a small mountain town of around 2,000 people. The town is in the center of the Durmitor mountain region and with an altitude of 1,456 meters, it is the highest situated town in the Balkans. Also known for its beautiful Black Lake (Crno Jezero) we will visit.

Black Lake in the Durmitor National Park is one of the top attractions in Montenegro, and every year is visited by lots of tourists from all over the world. Black Lake is the most famous and at the same time largest of 18 glacial lakes in The Durmitor National Park.

Taste delicious and excellent quality meat (roasted lamb or veal, chicken or fish- trout…) as a delicious various salad. Of course, we will also take care of you who are vegetarians or vegans, just when booking, please inform us. After we rested, we go on our fabulous walking tour around Black Lake.
The Black Lake must be seen! There’s a 4km walking track around the edge of the lake. It’s an easy trail through the forest and there are lots of places to stop for a picnic and to enjoy the view. Along the way, you’ll find info boards telling you about the plants and animals that live in the area and some of the history of the area.

Black Lake consists of two smaller lakes: Veliko jezero (Big Lake) and Malo jezero (Little Lake). It’s connected by a narrow strait that dries up during the summer, creating two separate bodies of water. It’s interesting to know, that the name Black Lake contributes to the dark depth of the lake, especially the Little Lake, whose bottom reaches depths up to 50 meters, while Big lake’s deep is half as low as 24.5.

During the walk around the lake, you will enjoy the view of the beautiful surroundings and of the Durmitor mountains peaks and amazing lake. The colours you can see in its area are stunning, and you can only see them from above, at a certain distance. If you are in the mood for a swim, just go around the lake and jump right in!
Our return journey from Durmitor and the Đurđevića Tara Bridge to Budva is going the same way we came and takes about three and a half hours.

Along the way, we will enjoy the beautiful views and before we reach Budva we will take a few short breaks for the photoshoot and be delighted with the famous view of Budva Riviera and the peninsula of St. Stefan.

Arrive in Bečići and Budva at about half-past seven o’clock (via Petrovac at about 19:00 and St. Stefan at about 19:15) at the meeting place for this day tour at the location and agreed time specified in the driving schedule or agreement.

Buses or minibusses depart at the scheduled time and location. To ensure smooth operation, we cannot take requests for late departures. About hotel guests: If agreed to Pick-Up and Drop-Off Service from the hotel, then a boarding location will be in a parking lot outside the hotel or in front of the hotel, at the according to the Pick-Up and Drop-Off locations and time specified in the voucher and our website.
About other guests: If you come on your own, with your own car or bus, you ‘ll be at the boarding point at least 10 minutes before departure.

The passenger is entitled to cancel the day tour and is required to inform the organizer. Cancellation can be made directly on the website, or in writing including cancellation by e-mail. The date of the written cancellation is the basis for calculating the fee, according to the law of the Organizer, expressed as a percentage of the total price, if the program is not otherwise stated, as follows:
• no cancellation fee if canceled at least 7 days before the scheduled departure
• 50% if canceled 6 – 3 days before the scheduled departure
• 100% if canceled within 48 hours before the scheduled departure
Missing arrival:
– If you do not arrive at the scheduled time of arrival without having notified Montenegro Adventure in advance, it will be considered a cancellation. Montenegro Adventure pays no compensation for non-arrival under the above conditions and without express authority from Montenegro Adventure.
– Montenegro Adventure informs you of the cancellation costs that amount to 100% of the booking price.
– The price is based on a group of 10-15 participants and is calculated per person, depending on the suggested date of the day tour.
– To realize this day tour must be at least 3 people, i.e., for 1-3 people, it’s possible to organise as a “private day tour” (for the price of 3 people).
– If there is an insufficient number of participants during your reservation and you want to book a “private day tour” and pay a deposit, but in the meantime, other people also book, then the basic price will be calculated. Just give us a notification when booking for this “basic” option.

Clothes: Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the day tour. Hat or cap, sunscreen, and appropriate sun protection clothing is required during warmer months. A small umbrella or raincoat for rain will be useful in case of light rain. The weather in the mountains of Montenegro can be very unpredictable (warmer clothing for months other than summer). Please prepare for various weather conditions.
