Herceg Novi is recognizable by its many staircases and abundance of mimosa trees. Herceg Novi is a lush place that conceals a wide variety of tropical flowers. The town fills with the delicate perfume of yellow and green mimosas towards the end of January, and a particular celebration known as Praznik Mimosa is held in honour of this flower. Because there are so many sunny days in a year, it is frequently referred to as “The City of the Sun.”

Herceg Novi’s Old Town (Stari Grad) is the city’s main focal point. It has streets lined with buildings dating back to the Sahat–Kula (1667) and Kanli–Kula (1483) eras. The cultural legacy of this widely recognized town includes fortresses like Forte Mare (1687) and Spanjola (1538). To enhance the tourism offerings of this picturesque town, numerous festivals are organized during the summer months.

According to the itinerary
While Herceg Novi’s Old Town may not be as large as Kotor’s Old Town, it can nonetheless be just as charming. The walk through the alleyways is leisurely and unhurried. With its charming courtyards, tiny squares, meandering cobblestoned lanes, abundant summer blooms, and charming little businesses, the entire region is primarily pedestrian-only. Visit Mare Fortress and Kanli Kula, a huge tower of Ottoman construction, today an amphitheatre overlooking the bay. Once you’ve seen the old town visit Savina Monastery for other impressive views over the bay and the sea. Savina Monastery with its vineyards, tasting the products from their cellars.

Enjoy the walkway known as the Pet Danica Walkway, a 6-km long path that stretches from Igalo, through Herceg Novi. It is not necessary to walk its whole length, but, it offers plenty of interesting sights, especially along the shoreline. Herceg Novi has a few exciting attractions; Plava Spilja is one of them (translating as the Blue Cave, this beautiful natural formation is located on the Lustica Peninsula) and needs to be visited by boat. The trip won’t only take you to check the cave but also part of the surrounding area, an exciting opportunity to check Fort Mamula and other sights along the Bay of Kotor, such as Zanjice Beach and Mamula Island.
Highlights of the tour:
We’ll meet about 10 minutes before departing time at the location after the program or agreement in Dubrovnik for a “welcome meeting”. We start from Dubrovnik, around 8:00 in the morning and drive towards Montenegro and Herceg Novi.

NOTE: The drive from Dubrovnik to Herceg Novi is about 1 hour/95 km (excluding border crossings).
Important: Bring your ID card or passport with you, because we are crossing the border between Croatia and Montenegro.
You will go on a guided walking tour through the old town of Herceg Novi, one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic coast. The town is nestled in one of the most picturesque areas of the Montenegrin coast, surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean flora. Herceg Novi is distinguished by the large number of staircases and mimosa trees. It is often called “The City of the Sun” because of the abundance of sunny days that occur there all year long.

We visit Forte Mare and Kanli Kula, which means “bloody tower,” a notorious prison built in the sixteenth century during the Turkish occupation of Herceg Novi. The pedestrian area of Ulica Njegoševa, which is bordered by exquisite, mostly 19th-century buildings and paved in the same polished marble as Dubrovnik, is the best place to start a tour through Herceg Novi’s old town. At the end of the street is Nikola Ðurković Square, lined with cafes, where stairs ascend to an exquisite clock tower dating back to 1667, situated above the main city entrance.
Savina Monastery is one of the most beautiful orthodox monasteries in Boka bay with a long history. It consists of three churches. The largest and the most dominant is a church dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.

After guided tours through the Old Town of Herceg Novi and Savina Monastery, you will go on a chosen activity: Savina Winery with wine tasting or Blue Cave & Zanjic beach boat tour.

Savina Winery, with a wine tasting, where you will have the opportunity to learn about grape-growing and winemaking in the lavish Mediterranean vegetation and woodland surroundings. After sightseeing at Savina Winery, taste 3 types of wine: Rose, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by an even richer selection of local, homemade canape & tapas; olive oil tastings produced by the estate’s olive groves; and finish off with a tasting of their local Grappa digestive. Also, you will listen to one indigenous white varietal, Žižak (zhizhak).

Blue Cave & Žanjic Beach Boat Tour: A boat tour to the jewel of the Adriatic, Blue Cave (Plava špilja), where you can take a dip and take photos. Then, as we are going to Žanjice Beach, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Mamula Island.

NOTE: The choice of which of these two activities you want to go to must be booked in advance, before departure.
After the Savina Winery or Blue Cave tour, before the return journey to Dubrovnik, take a short break to enjoy a Mediterranean lunch at one of the restaurants in the Old Town (not included in the tour price), or, enjoy a cup of coffee on the square.

At 15:30, after about half an hour of free time in Herceg Novi, we leave for Dubrovnik.
Arrival in Dubrovnik, the starting point for the trip.
